How to rank programs for the Residency Match (NRMP)

After you apply and interview for a medical residency position, it is time to make your rank order list in the NRMP Match.

First of all, this is the most important concept that you should have in mind: you will never decrease your chances of getting into a program by ranking them differently. For that reason, you should rank the programs in the order that you would like to get them. Everything else does not matter.

Several people make complex strategies about how to rank, but really, for the candidate it does not make any difference.
