| Thank you cards after interviewing for a medical residency position: When and How »
October 03, 2004Accepting Pre-Match residency positions ?During the interview season, IMGs are often offered positions out ot the Match, also known as pre-match offers. It is very hard to devide whether to take a position or not. Most think that by not accepting the offer, one is automatically excluded from the Match list for that particular program. People getting those offers have very good USMLE scores and are competitive candidates. Most have multiple interviews. If in doubt, ask for time to think, a few days at least. If the program offering the position is a place you would like to go to, there is no question that the offer should be taken, as it seals your fate and will save you a lot of money by not having to continue interviewing and applying for residency. If such an offer is accepted, don't even think of thinking about cancelling the agreement later, as this may cause you big trouble. Make sure you withdraw from the Match and enjoy the rest of your time before residency starts ! |
