Thank you cards after interviewing for a medical residency position: When and How

Around this time the are some people that have already a schedule for their upcoming interviews. There is a ritual that is done year after year after interviewing: sending "thank you" cards.

I think it is good practice to let people know that you liked their program. And a thank you card gives you that oportunity. I am sure that an applicant gets another mark when such a card is received. This card should be (1) short, meaning just a simple card, no letters, no long phrases, and (2) personalised, mentioning something that may make the person reading it remember you, for example something that was happening when you were there, a book you mentioned, a story you told... Another important part is that it should not be sent too late. I think 1 month is ok, and you will get the attention you want.
