Interviews and Second Looks - what do they mean ?

During the medical residency interview trail, it is not uncommon to hear the term "second look", as a term when someone returns after the initial interview. First of all, any applicant can request a second look, since it may allow the applicant to know the residency program a bit better, and also to talk to the PD and faculty about other issues that one might want to discuss. Also, some PDs invite applicants to come back, sometimes as a way to show them that they are interested, but they might also be doing that to all applicants.

I see second looks as a way to show interest, and certainly your name will be reinforced in the PDs memory. If you are really interested in a certain program, I don't think doing this can hurt you.
